Things to do on a camping holiday

Our guide to camping holiday activities.

If you are camping with children, whether toddlers or teenagers, it pays to ensure that you have plenty of activities planned to avoid boredom setting in. Even an adult-only group will benefit from knowing what there is to do and having plenty of options.

Have a picnic

There’s nothing quite like having a picnic, whether by the sea or in the countryside, and it’s a lovely sociable way to while away a few hours. As long as you have food and drink aplenty and something comfortable to sit and relax on, spending a few hours eating al fresco is a real tonic. All the must-have accessories for the perfect picnic can be found  in our Beach and Picnic department and check our top tips for the perfect picnic to make sure you don’t leave anything out!

Visit the beach

A trip to the beach on a sunny day is a must-do on a seaside holiday and will reward you with hours of fun at very little cost. Collecting shells, making sandcastles, exploring rock pools, and paddling are all great activities that can be enjoyed by all ages. Or, for the more energetic, an Aerobie pro disc is great fun, and who knows, you might beat the world record for the furthest throw at 1,333 feet!

Let’s go fly a kite!

All you need to have fun is an open space and some windy weather, so even when it feels like the weather is against you, grab a kite and enjoy this archetypal camping activity. At BEC Ingoldmells, we have kites to suit everyone, from your unicorn-loving little poppet to your too-cool-to-talk-to teen, so no one has to be left out.

Create a campfire feast

Pool resources with some of your new found campsite friends and invite them over to your pitch to share in a hearty campfire meal. Our easy campfire recipes are quick and simple to make, with just a barbecue or stove. A great way to relax and unwind after a busy day sightseeing or walking.

Of course these activities need fine, possibly dry weather, which can’t be guaranteed here in the UK. So what can you do if you find yourself confined to the campsite or the tent, due to bad weather?

Have a good old chat

We know this will possibly get the tech-deprived amongst you running for the hills, but enforced conversation is a great way to reconnect. We all live such busy lives that we don’t always notice the lack of conversation as we pass each other like ships in the night. Being busy together, perhaps when preparing a meal, will often prompt conversation. Or why not indulge in some good, old fashioned story telling?

Crack open the board games

If the weather really has stopped play, then break out some traditional board games that everyone can enjoy. Our selection of travel games includes classic favourites such as Connect 4 and Monopoly to name just two.

If you are holidaying on the east coast and are stuck for activity ideas, do drop in to one of our shops. We have everything you need for a day of fun, and our friendly staff can recommend local activities in the area too.
